IE6 Memory Leak

IE6 Memory Leak
QTip rocks but I can't help noticing that pages using QTip introduce a multi-megabyte memory leak per page refresh on IE6. I first suspected this when my site's page performance started to slow down, but I have now confirmed the problem using Drip (http://www.outofhanwell.com/ieleak/index.php) with the QTip demo page.

I know this isn't really QTip's fault because IE6's garbage collection sucks, but I believe there are workarounds.

And yes, I know we shouldn't have to deal with IE6 anymore, but sadly the IT dept still hasn't got round to upgrading the corporate desktop from IE6, so we have hundreds of users stuck with it. I suspect this is still the case in many organisations around the world.

IE6 Memory Leak
Thanks for bring the topic up zootius, and definitely not thrilled to hear you've got your hands tied with IE6! I don't envy you at all.

I'm actually reading up on an extensive list of memory leaks in all IE versions at the moment, and learning how to prevent them in the future as well as adapt qTip's code base to work around them. I'm well aware qtip has scalability problems at the moment, and looking forward to the 1.1 release is where all the major speed developments will take place.

If you have any suggestions on how to prevent the memory leaks or just want to send a few links my way I'd be more than grateful.

RE: IE6 Memory Leak
Hi Craig,
I'm drasticaly suffering of memory leaks.
On IE6/8 FireFox, Google Chrome and Opera !

I build a page using JSon, which is refreshed every 20 seconds !
On top of this I have, per row, about 10 QTipped fields, each table having about 20to 40 rows each.

This means that one small memory leak will have very quickly a big impact !

On the refresh, I delete the table rows, but I suspect I should FIRST delete/unbind QTip !
How can I do that ?

Regards,
Dominique.

RE: IE6 Memory Leak
DomDom, this is hopefully addressed in the newest qTip release here: http://www.github.com/craga89/qtip
